Comparison

Subi vs Bold

Bold has been on Shopify since the early days. Subi arrived later. Both charge a flat monthly fee plus a percentage of subscription revenue, so the comparison is straightforward arithmetic, and the answer changes depending on your volume.

The short version

This comparison is not one-sided. Bold's Launch plan at $24.99 plus 2% undercuts Subi below about $1,000 a month. Between $1,000 and $3,500, Subi's Starter is cheaper. From $3,500 to roughly $44,000, Bold's Grow and Scale plans win on rate. Past $44,000, Subi is cheaper again and the gap keeps widening.

Both charge base plus a percentage, no per-order fees. Bold's rates run 2%/1%/0.9%; Subi's run 1.60%/0.80%/0.40%.

Bold gives 30 days to trial. We give 7 plus a 3-month money-back guarantee. Both are month to month.

The widest gap in Bold's favour is about $47 a month, around the $11,000 mark where our own plan steps up. The widest gap in ours is at the high end, where our rate drops to 0.40% and theirs stops at 0.9%.

What you would actually pay

Monthly cost at different volumes of subscription revenue processed, each on the plan that fits that volume. Subi figures from our own billing configuration; Bold figures from their public App Store listing. Both checked 1 September 2026.

Neither app charges a per-order fee. Bold has three plans: Launch ($24.99 plus 2%) is cheapest below about $1,000 a month, beating Subi's $29 Starter. Between roughly $1,000 and $3,500, Subi's Starter wins despite the higher rate. From $3,500 to about $44,000, Bold's lower rates on Grow and Scale make it cheaper, with the widest gap around $11,000 where our plan switches from Starter to Subi. Past $44,000, Subi's rate advantage takes over and keeps compounding: by $100,000 a month it is about $96 cheaper, and our rate steps down again to 0.40% at the top of the ladder.

Where Bold is the better choice

We would rather you pick correctly than pick us.

  • Your subscription revenue is below about $1,000 a month or between $3,500 and $44,000. In the lower range Bold's Launch plan starts at $24.99, below our $29 floor. In the upper range Bold's percentage rates win despite the higher monthly fee.
  • You want 30 days to evaluate. That is four times our trial window, and more room to set things up before the clock starts.
  • You are already running Bold and it is stable. Migration is real work and inertia is a legitimate answer.

Where Subi is the better choice

The cases where the table above and the terms both point our way.

  • Your subscription revenue is between about $1,000 and $3,500 a month and you want the lowest total. In that range our $29 Starter undercuts every Bold plan.
  • Your subscription revenue is past $44,000 a month or heading there. Our rate steps down to 0.40% while Bold's stops at 0.9%, and on a six-figure month that gap is most of a salary.
  • You want subscriptions, memberships and bundles from one app rather than assembling them.

If you do decide to move

Subscription migration is not a CSV import. Existing contracts have to keep billing on their own schedules, with their own discounts, without asking your customers to re-enter anything.

1

Talk to us first with your numbers. We will tell you which plan fits and what it will cost.

2

We map your existing plans, discounts and billing dates before anything moves.

3

Contracts transfer with their schedules intact, subscribers do not re-subscribe and do not re-enter payment details.

4

We stay on it through the first billing cycle, which is the one where problems actually surface.

Questions merchants ask

Will my subscribers have to sign up again?

No. Contracts move with their existing billing dates and discounts. Asking subscribers to re-enter payment details is how a migration loses customers, so the process is built to avoid it.

Is Subi always cheaper than Bold?

No. Bold's Launch plan is cheaper below about $1,000 a month, and Bold's Grow and Scale plans are cheaper between $3,500 and $44,000. Subi wins the middle range, roughly $1,000 to $3,500, and everything above $44,000, where our rate keeps stepping down to 0.40%.

Are either of you charging per-order fees?

No. Neither Subi nor Bold charges a flat fee per order. That is a real difference from some other apps, and it is worth checking on any app you compare.
