Payment recovery now collects the missed charge when a customer fixes their card

Billing & PaymentsRetention

When a customer whose card had been hard-declined replaced it, payment recovery used to close the case as "Recovered" and clear the missed-payment flag without ever charging the cycle that had actually failed. Since 2026-07-20 that happened on about 122 recovery sequences, roughly 15 a week, each one leaving revenue uncollected while the record read as resolved.

Payment recovery now charges the specific cycle that failed as soon as the replacement card is confirmed, instead of just clearing the flag. If that charge succeeds, the sequence is marked Recovered only once the money has actually arrived. If it's declined, or the missed cycle is too close to the next billing date to charge safely, the sequence now ends with an honest status instead, such as "declined" or "not collected," so a merchant checking a subscription's history sees what actually happened rather than a misleading "Recovered."

The customer's own portal reflects the same accuracy: while the new charge is processing, the recovery banner now shows it as "charging," and the outcome afterward shows as declined or not collected instead of going blank. If a customer replaces their card a second time and the missed cycle is still unresolved, recovery tries again, so they aren't left in limbo after a first attempt fails.

This applies automatically wherever a hard-declined card is replaced, with no setup required on your end.
