Stock back? Billing resumes.

Selling subscriptions on physical products means occasional stock-outs. When a renewal billing attempt fails because the item is out of stock, the order would previously stay failed — even after you restocked — unless someone stepped in manually. Smart Recovery now handles this automatically.
How it works
When Smart Recovery detects that a billing failure is inventory-related, it stamps the recovery sequence with a deadline and an attempt allowance. A detection pass continuously watches for the item to be restocked. When inventory returns, Smart Recovery re-attempts the billing automatically — no action needed from you or the subscriber.
If the restocking window closes before stock is replenished (or if the attempt allowance runs out), the subscription reaches a new terminal state: Exhausted — no action. This is a deliberate non-mutating outcome: Subi records that auto-reseat ran to completion without success, but leaves the subscription itself unchanged. You will see this state on the contract's recovery panel and can decide what to do next.
A backfill in the same release (subify-backend!2163) retroactively stamped existing sequences that were already stuck in an inventory-related state before this launch, so any contracts that were waiting will enter the auto-reseat window immediately.
Who it affects
Merchants on Smart Payment Recovery who sell physical products that can temporarily go out of stock. The feature is live under the inventory_auto_reseat_v1 flag, which is enabled in production. No configuration is needed — if an inventory-related billing failure occurs, Smart Recovery handles it automatically.
