Prepaid subscription edits now charge the correct price

Billing & PaymentsSubscriptions & Plans

When you edit a prepaid subscription contract — for example, switching a subscriber from a 12-cycle prepaid plan to a monthly plan, or changing one prepaid period to another — Subi now sends the correct price to Shopify. A bug that caused the wrong price to be applied has been fixed.

What was happening. Prepaid subscription contracts carry a per-cycle price multiplier: a 12-cycle annual prepaid plan at $224.95 per cycle bills $2,699.46 up front (12 × $224.95). When a merchant edited a prepaid contract through the subscriptions admin, the service computed this multiplier from the contract's existing database record — the state before the edit — rather than from the new billing policy the edit was applying. The stale multiplier was then pushed to Shopify as the contract's currentPrice and its pricing policy computedPrice.

The result depended on the direction of the change:

  • Prepaid → monthly: the old 12× multiplier stayed in place, so Shopify billed the subscriber $2,699.46 instead of $224.95 — a severe overcharge.
  • Monthly → prepaid: the 1× multiplier remained, so Shopify billed $224.95 instead of $2,699.46 — an undercharge.
  • Prepaid → different prepaid: e.g. from 8-cycle ($1,799.64) to 12-cycle — Shopify received $1,799.64 instead of $2,699.46.

What changed. The multiplier is now read from the incoming billing policy in the edit request — the policy that will actually govern the updated contract — before anything is committed to the database. This ensures the price Subi sends to Shopify always reflects the plan the subscriber is being moved to, not the one they were on before.

If any of your prepaid subscribers had their plan changed through the Subi subscriptions admin, please verify the contract prices in Shopify match the expected amounts for their new plan. Contracts edited going forward will charge correctly at the moment of edit.
