SMS reminders for failed payments

Smart Recovery — SMS reminders for at-risk subscriptions

Smart Recovery's failed-payment sequence can now reach subscribers by SMS, not just email. A new SMS reminders toggle on the Payment Recovery settings page lets merchants add day-3 and day-7 SMS escalation messages on top of the existing email cadence — an extra channel for subscribers who don't respond to email alone.

The toggle sits alongside Smart Recovery's other settings, with help text explaining what it does before you turn it on. Merchants on a plan that doesn't include SMS escalation see the toggle locked, with a direct link to upgrade or enable SMS elsewhere in their account.

Behind the scenes, this release also hardens the email side of the recovery sequence: Subi now tracks bounces and spam complaints on recovery emails and suppresses further sends to addresses that hard-bounce or complain, keeping the rest of the sequence's emails out of addresses that can't or don't want to receive them.

Together, the SMS channel and the deliverability safeguards extend Smart Recovery's existing recovery toolkit — automatic retries, the one-click backup-card switch, and the card-update link for expired cards — giving subscribers another way to get back on track after a failed payment.
