Give subscribers a free gift to stay — new cancellation flow treatment

Your cancellation flow can now offer subscribers a free gift product for a set number of billing cycles, added automatically and removed after the period ends — no discount needed, no coupon codes.

The cancellation flow now supports a Gift treatment — you pick a product and the number of billing cycles it should last, and Subi handles the rest. When a subscriber starts to cancel and accepts the offer, the gift item is added as a free line to their subscription and is removed automatically once the specified cycles are complete. No coupon codes, no manual follow-up.

How to set it up

Open Retention → Cancellation flow in your Subi admin, add a treatment to any step in your flow, and choose Gift. You can configure:

  • Gift product — which product to add as a free line.
  • Duration — how many billing cycles the gift stays on the subscription.

Each subscriber sees the gift offer at most once. Once accepted, the offer won't surface again for that subscriber — so you're not giving away product indefinitely.

What subscribers see

The gift offer appears on the cancellation screen in both the Shopify customer account page and the Subi customer portal. If the subscriber accepts, their subscription continues and the gift shows up on their next order confirmation. After the configured number of cycles the item is removed from the subscription automatically — no action needed from you or the customer.

When to use it

Gift treatments work well when the friction is hesitation, not dissatisfaction: a subscriber who might churn because they haven't started using the product yet, or one who needs a nudge to stay a few more cycles while they get the habit. You can combine the Gift treatment with Discount and Product-swap treatments in the same flow to offer different saves to different reasons.
