Skip Limit — cap how many times a customer can skip

You can now cap how many times a customer can skip their upcoming billing — per month, per year, or per contract lifetime.

Customer Portal

Skips are great for retention — until one customer skips forever. Skip Limit lets you cap how many times a customer can skip their upcoming billing: per month, per year, or per contract lifetime.

How it works

  • New section in Customer portal → Permissions: turn on Limit number of skips, pick a count (default 3) and a scope (default per year).
  • When a customer hits the cap, the Skip button is replaced with a clear message and three alternatives: Pause subscription, Change frequency, or Contact merchant — so they always have a next step that isn't cancelling.
  • The same experience appears in the Subi customer portal and in the Shopify customer account page.

What stays the same

Skipping is unlimited by default — the cap only activates when you flip the toggle on. Your existing "Allow customers to skip" and "Minimum days before skip" settings are unchanged, and merchant-initiated skips (including bulk edits and cancellation-flow skip offers) never count against a customer's cap.

For developers: a public-API skip blocked by the cap returns the error code NEXT_BILLING_SKIP_LIMIT_EXCEEDED, and contract detail responses now include a skip_blocked_by_limit flag.
