Selling plan frequencies — set a zero-rate initial period and cleaner discount fields
You can now set an initial discount of 0% or $0 on a selling plan frequency, making it possible to create a free-first-order or no-discount period before the recurring discount kicks in — and the discount field no longer defaults to 0 when no pricing policy is active.
Subi's selling plan frequency editor now lets you enter a discount value of exactly zero — and stops pre-filling the field with a phantom 0 when no pricing policy is active yet.
What changed
Zero is now a valid initial discount. Previously, percentage-type and fixed-amount discounts required a value greater than zero. If you tried to save 0 you'd hit a validation error and couldn't proceed. Now 0 is accepted for every pricing type (percentage still caps at 100; the field still requires you to enter something).
This unlocks a real configuration pattern: set the initial discount to 0, then turn on "adjust discount after specific cycles" to apply your real discount starting from order two, three, or any cycle you choose. Before this fix, that workflow wasn't possible because the first order's 0% discount was rejected. Now it is.
Discount field no longer pre-fills with 0. When you open the Add selling plan frequency modal without an active pricing policy — for example when you're creating a brand-new plan — the discount and price fields now start empty rather than defaulting to 0. You have to enter a value intentionally. A plan already saved with a flat-rate price of $0 still shows 0 correctly; this change only affects the blank starting state.
Why it matters
Together, these two improvements give you finer control over how discounts are structured on a selling plan:
- Delayed-discount subscriptions: Offer your first order at full price (0% discount), then automatically apply a loyalty discount from order two onward using Subi's cycle-based adjustment — a common retention pattern that was previously blocked.
- Fewer accidental saves: The empty default means you won't accidentally publish a
0discount you didn't intend, and the field will prompt you to enter a deliberate value.
These improvements apply to both the create flow (new selling plan frequencies) and the edit flow (updating an existing frequency's pricing).
To try it, go to Plans in the Subi admin, open any selling plan, and click a frequency to edit it — or add a new frequency and explore the discount section.
